Wedding Madness

This weekend I went to two weddings that couldn't have been more different. Besides obvious differences in quality of planning, location, food, and guests, the two wedding also had very different ceremonies. One was a typical Protestant ceremony with many mentions about getting closer to God in order to get closer to each other, while the other ceremony was what I can best describe as a matured hippy wedding. There was talk about the couple being similar to trees and people and how they need each other to survive. The juxtaposition made me realize that, despite being agnostic, I much prefer the religious wedding. For some reason a wedding seems much more important when a fictitious omnipotent being considers it a good idea. When God is removed it just seems like a silly celebration of two people signing a business contract. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but we should just accept it for what it is.
